TIKI TUA CULTURAL
Discover the sacred places that define our heritage and connect us to our ancestors

Tamatekapua
Our sanctuary, the place we feel most at home in the world. As descendants, it is humbling to host people from all nations beneath the watchful gaze of our eponymous ancestor.
This house serves multiple purposes, yet its walls are imbued with the rich history of countless stories that will be passed down through generations. It is a space of renewal, knowledge, and cultural immersion, embodying the essence of Māori tradition.

St Faith's Church
A beautiful amalgamation of belief systems, where every detail of its construction reflects the understanding that we all belong to the creator, regardless of our individual beliefs.
Religion plays a significant role in our culture, and within our village, we have two living churches and one dormant church. St Faith's Anglican Church holds particular significance for us; it connects us deeply to the land and the community it serves.

Geothermal Wonders
The geothermal resources of our village offer a unique advantage that we cherish. Often, our genealogical tales are intertwined with geothermal activity.
This natural landscape is not only a source of tranquility, peace, and healing but also a vital part of our identity. It connects our past with our present, reminding us of the intricate relationship between our people and the land.
Te Arawa / Whakaue
As a descendant of our ancestor Whakaue, I carry the responsibility of upholding the mana (honor/prestige) of our people, the tangata whenua (people of the land).
It is essential to bring to life the stories that have often been silenced, transforming pain into purpose and hate into love. Each interaction is a chance to share these narratives and ensure they resonate with those who visit us.
Honoring Our Warriors
Remembering those who sacrificed for our freedoms
Muruika
Each year, we honor those who sacrificed their lives in the world wars. Muruika is a resting place for our soldiers who returned from World War I, World War II, and even the Boer War.
This sacred site serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our ancestors over the last six generations, allowing us to enjoy the freedoms and joys we have today.
Honoring the brave
Remembering the fallen
Legacy of courage
